Officials say the Blue Bridge at Owensboro, KY will not reopen until mid-January

The Blue Bridge at Owensboro will remain closed through the end of the year. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The contractor repairing the Glover Cary Bridge has notified the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that it will be mid-January before enough work is complete to safely reopen the structure to traffic.

The bridge was expected to reopen this month, but the contractor has cited supply chain issues.

The Transportation Cabinet says it’s worked with the contractor to ensure all materials have been ordered, delivered or sourced, and the contractor has now set a new Jan. 16 bridge reopening date.

As planned, additional work will continue once the bridge reopens to traffic.

The nearly $18 million repair project began in mid-July,

The Blue Bridge opened in 1940 and officials say about 7,200 vehicles cross it daily.
Traffic is currently detoured to the U.S. 231 William Natcher Bridge.
