The Evansville Fire Department says about 18 residents were displaced by an apartment fire on the city's far east side; no one was injured

A two-alarm apartment fire has displaced more than a dozen residents. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Evansville firefighters were called to the 700 block of Biltmore Way in the Cross Lake Apartments at about 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

The EFD says firefighters encountered heavy fire and immediately initiated a second alarm for additional personnel and resources.

The department says crews worked aggressively to contain the fire and prevent further spread.

Part of the roof collapsed but there was no report of injuries to firefighters or residents.

It took about 50 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control.

The American Red Cross was notified to help about 18 displaced people.

CenterPoint Energy was also called to the scene to secure utilities.

The EFD says investigators believe the fire will most likely be ruled accidental, but the investigation remains open.
