The contractor working on Owensboro, Kentucky's Glover Cary Bridge cites supply chain issues for a delay in the project

The Blue Bridge at Owensboro will remain closed longer than planned. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The contractor overseeing deck and joint repairs on the Glover Cary Bridge has notified state officials the work will take longer than 90 days.

The work started in mid-July.

American Contracting and Services cites ongoing supply chain issues as the primary factor.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says its engineers have been working closely with American in recent weeks, but attempts to secure a new final completion date have been unsuccessful.

Officials say the long-term concrete maintenance and steel joint repairs will help preserve the bridge’s structural integrity.

The 750-foot span connects Owensboro and Spencer County, Indiana.

It opened in 1940 and officials say about 7,200 vehicles cross it daily.

Traffic is currently detoured to the U.S. 231 William Natcher Bridge.
