A man now faces a murder charge in the death of longtime Evansville realtor Susan Haynie. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
Evansville Police say an affidavit has been submitted charging 35-year-old Jamerus Parkman with murder.
Parkman is accused of killing the 74-year-old Haynie inside her home on E. Gum St. August 27th.
EPD Sgt. Anthony Aussieker says surveillance video from the neighborhood helped lead detectives to Parkman:
"The same person, ultimately Jamerus Parkman, was located in each of those videos. So his image was then disseminated to officers and asked for help identifying who he was."
Haynie’s murder shocked residents of what is typically a low-crime neighborhood near Evansville’s Vann Park.
Aussieker admits police could have acted sooner to alert more neighbors:
"Hindsight being 20/20 we probably should have let residents know, like hey, this is a crime to be aware of. Make sure you're looking your doors. Make sure you're securing your homes."
The case was initially probed as a death investigation.
Detectives ruled it a homicide a few days later and Parkman was taken into custody at a local motel.
