Another day, another ozone alert. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has extended its air quality alert through Thursday for much of central and southern Indiana, including the Evansville area.
Officials say the ongoing warm temperatures, bright sunshine, light wind, low humidity, and wildfire smoke continue to make air quality potentially hazardous for “sensitive groups.”
Those groups include children, the elderly, and anyone with heart or lung conditions.
If you fall into one of those categories you're advised to reduce time and exertion outdoors.
Experts say everyone can help reduce ozone pollution by walking, biking, or carpooling to work; avoiding the drive-through; combining errands into one trip, waiting until evening to refuel your vehicle; and conserving energy at home and at work.
The warm, dry weather has also prompted burn bans in the Tri-State.
Forecasters are calling for chances of badly-needed rain by Saturday night.
