KY Gov. Andy Beshear says Pres. Trump will release AmeriCorp funding, after multi-state lawsuit

Kentucky is among states that have secured AmeriCorps funding that the Trump Administration tried to halt. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

Gov. Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, 22 state attorneys general, and the District of Columbia won a lawsuit to restore the federal funding.

Beshear says the win will provide the rest of the more than $9 million in funds appropriated by Congress to support the commonwealth’s Serve Kentucky commission.

It focuses on housing development, the fight against hunger, family support, education, disaster relief and more.

Beshear says AmeriCorps and Serve Kentucky “make our people, communities and country stronger.”

Beshear joined the multistate lawsuit in April of this year and in June secured an injunction to stop the federal government from terminating the nearly $400 million worth of AmeriCorps programs.

On Thursday, the Trump administration agreed to release all AmeriCorps money.
