The Board of Zoning Appeals denied a permit for the proposed Bluegrass Creek solar facility in northern Vanderburgh County

The Board of Zoning Appeals has narrowly rejected a special use permit for a solar farm in northern Vanderburgh County. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

After hours of discussion, board members voted Thursday night at the Civic Center:

"3 yes, 4 no's and the motion is denied."

Opponents of the large-scale energy generating facility cheered the vote.

Bluegrass Creek Solar proposed the solar farm north of Baseline Road between I-69 and Old State Road.

The plan included annual payments of 25-hundred dollars to more than 100 nearby residents.

But many residents opposed the plan and Vanderburgh County Commission President Justin Elpers recently expressed his opposition.

Supporters say the solar farm is needed to move from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources.
