Funding to Boost ECHO's Crisis Services

ECHO

A $1 million grant is expected to improve the response to mental health and substance abuse crises in Evansville and Vanderburgh County

Vanderburgh is among five Indiana counties receiving a million-dollar grant to launch and expand mobile crisis response teams. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Black Onyx Management has announced the first cohort of grantees for the Mobile Crisis Accelerator Program – or M-CAP.

The statewide initiative provides grants, training, and technical assistance to respond to individuals in mental health or substance abuse crises.

The goal is to offer immediate on-site de-escalation, linkage to services, and alternatives to emergency room visits or police involvement.

In Vanderburgh County, ECHO Housing and Community Development will operate a cross-sector mobile crisis response that integrates housing, behavioral health, and harm reduction services.

The model will extend beyond the Evansville city limits, with potential expansion to ten surrounding counties.

It will build on Vanderburgh County’s E3 Initiative.
