Workers with O’Risky Excavating are removing bricks from main street downtown.

They’re cutting through reinforced concrete, to install a new domestic and fire suppression water tap, for the future location of steakhouse Terrica’s at 215 Main street.

City Engineer Michael Libitzke is standing nearby. He said the city is monitoring how the project is handled, "and how they're managing pedestrians and traffic," he said.

The shopfront is currently covered in plywood, posted with an application notice for an alcohol beverage permit for beer, wine and liquor.

According to Downtown Evansville, the closure is expected to continue through Friday, Aug. 22. If completed sooner, the street will reopen.

While more temporary than others, it is one of several closures downtown. These include a section of Sycamore Street for the Vault on Main construction, Riverside Drive near Cherry Street for the sinkhole repairs and Walnut Street at 9th Street for road work.
