CenterPoint Offers Tips After High Bills

CenterPoint Energy has some back-to-school tips to reduce bills in southwest Indiana

A blazing-hot July and a rate increase have caused energy bills to soar in southwest Indiana. Now, CenterPoint Energy is offering tips to reduce power usage. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

As students return to school and daytime energy use shifts, CenterPoint encourages customers to raise the thermostat when the house is empty.

CenterPoint says a three-to-four degree increase during school and work hours can reduce cooling costs.

We’re also urged to unplug unused devices, like gaming systems, chargers and printers that draw power even when idle.

The company suggests using a “smart power strip” that can turn them off all at once.

Another tip: keep cool air in. You’re urged to seal small leaks around doors and windows with weather-stripping or caulk.

Also, close blinds to keep out sunlight during the hottest part of the day and do laundry loads in cold water.
