Tuesday is August 12th – or 8-1-2. WNIN’s John Gibson reports the city of Evansville says it’s a day to celebrate:
The city has a full slate of community events and celebrations in honor of 8-1-2 Day, named for the city's area code.
Events include a Block-by-Block Cleanup in the Goosetown Neighborhood from 9:00 to11:00 a.m.
Volunteers and city workers will gather at Potter’s Wheel on Jefferson Avenue for grass cutting, tree trimming, litter pickup and police and fire outreach.
Gloves and supplies will be provided.
Meanwhile, the official unveiling of the new Goosetown Park sign is set for 10:30 a.m.
An 8-1-2 Day Block Party is also planned from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., hosted by River City Coffee and Young & Established.
The event at 233 Main St. will include a live DJ, espresso bar, vegan donuts, giveaways, and 8-1-2-themed specials, including 20-percent off all Evansville gear at River City Coffee.
Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry says 8-1-2 Day is about celebrating who we are, lifting up neighborhoods we live in, the parks where we gather, and the local businesses that power our economy.
