The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU) is making progress to begin repairing the sinkhole on Riverside Drive after spring delays

Riverside Drive at the corner of Chestnut Street resembles a large-scale construction site, not a heavily-traveled thorofare.

It’s been closed since late February. Repairs have been impeded by heavy rain and high Ohio River water levels.

This week, the EWSU shared an email blast. It says crews have been installing 180 panels of sheet piling 50-feet into the ground to make the area safe for working.

Once that’s done, crews will be able to safely start excavation and begin the repairs.

The lack of a sewer main along Riverside Drive has causes storm sewer backflow problems for nearby residents and businesses.
