The Rhine Valley Brass Band warms up for the 63rd annual Volksfest which opens for lunch Thursday and runs through Saturday night at the club on Fulton Avenue.
Germania’s Jody Wassmer says attendees can expect plenty of German music:
"We have two new Germans bands that we've never had before, both the River City Polkats and also, Polka-Cola. They're from Louisville and Cincinnati and we're real excited to have them."
And lots of German food:
"We have made 25,000 kraut balls so far this year. They're all hand made from scratch. Of course, we'll do about a half a ton of brats at Volksfest."
Wassmer reminds festival-goers they can eat, drink, and do the chicken dance indoors or outdoors:
"Both our rathskeller downstairs and our fest hall are air conditioned and we'll have them nice and comfortable. And then outside, we've got the covered beer garden like we always have."
The event also includes a Back to School Bash on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., when the club provides backpacks and school supplies.
Admission is free and open to all ages at lunch time. But after 2 p.m., admission is five dollars – cash only – and you must be at least 21 with two IDs.
