Vanderburgh County Commissioners are asking the city of Evansville to “collaborate” with commissioners and AMR on ambulance service. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Mayor Stephanie Terry announced plans in May for the city’s fire department to take over emergency ambulance service within the city limits, ending a long partnership with AMR.
But all three county commissioners have sent a letter to Terry, urging the city to work with AMR on what they call an “independent study.”
The commissioners say Evansville Fire Chief Tony Knight could take the lead in the study.
The county leaders contend there are a number of unknowns that could adversely impact the success of a City-run ambulance service, including local government funding cuts from the state.
Commissioners also say they have concerns regarding the financial and operational implications to county residents.
Under the city’s plan, the county would still be served by AMR and Scott Township EMS.
There’s been no official response from Mayor Terry.
