Reforestation of Old Golf Course Moves Forward

Wesselman Woods

Wesselman Woods says work to re-forest an old Par 3 golf course starts this summer

Wesselman Woods has announced a timeline for a major re-forestation project. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Executive Director Amy Rhodes says the project to replace the former Par 3 Golf Course is now called Wesselman Woods West Meadow.

Rhodes says this summer, turf grass will be eradicated with three-to-four herbicide applications as needed.

This winter, workers plan to sow native seed during the dormant season.

Next year, the plan is to mow to 4-6 inches to suppress weeds and support perennial growth.

In 2027, crews will mow in May and November to manage weed pressure.

And by summer 2028, the meadow should require minimal maintenance with spot-treating of invasive species.

The Wesselman Nature Society agreed in 2023 to manage the space that once hosted Par 3 golfers as part of Wesselman Park.
