Barricades on Riverside Drive in Evansville

A driver went around barricades and ended up in the sinkhole on Evansville's riverfront

A pickup truck ended up in the sinkhole on Evansville’s riverfront on Thursday. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The driver, described as an elderly man, drove through barricades on Chestnut St. and into the rock-filled hole on Riverside Drive.

Evansville police say he was not injured.

Barricades, including chain-link fence, surround the sinkhole that has closed part of all of Riverside Drive since late February.

All lanes of Riverside are currently closed.

The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility believes a sewer line 25 feet below the roadway collapsed, causing the road above to sink.

Crews trying to fix the hole have been battling high river levels.
