AMR says many questions remain follow the City of Evansville’s announcement that it will end its contract with the ambulance company. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
In a message to employees, AMR officials said they were sorry that workers learned of the planned change through the news media, and not from the company.
AMR says it learned about the plan just before it was announced.
The company also says it can’t verify the city’s claims that putting the Fire Department in charge of emergency ambulance service will lower charges and shorten response times.
AMR is urging the public to ask deeper questions about how the funding will work.
The company notes a handful of governments have announced similar plans depending on federal matching dollars — funding which is now “very much in question.”
AMR says it has a long history of providing great care and innovative solutions in Evansville, including the recent addition of the 9-1-1 Nurse Navigation program.
Mayor Stephanie Terry thanked AMR for its years of service but said the switch will better integrate public safety.
