EVSC Superintendent David Smith provides his updates on Monday April 28, at the regular board meeting. He announced his summer retirement in January, triggering the current search for a new district leader.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) Board Trustee Chris Kiefer offered another update on the superintendent search at the Monday afternoon meeting.

The school board conducted the second round of interviews on April 14th and 15th. He can't share how many candidates were interviewed, but said it’s a “nice pool.”

“We have identified someone, but we're in the contract stage right now, so that's a critical stage. So that's where we are.”

He said the candidate should be made public by the final board meeting in May.

A new superintendent of EVSC is being sought because longtime Superintendent David Smith is retiring this summer.

Kiefer is leading the search along with others, and the Indiana School Board Association.

“We were, I think, smart to get the Indiana School Board Association individual that helped us through the process, and he led us along the way,” Kiefer said. “I feel very comfortable. I thought the first and second round interviews went well,” he said. “The board has done their due diligence, and we're going to have a good superintendent.”

The board legally must publish the final contract 10 days prior to agreeing to hire this individual who would start in July.
