EFD: The cause of the blaze at Westcott Apartments is undetermined

Ten people have been displaced by a fire at an Evansville apartment complex. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

Evansville Firefighters were called to 2601 Sterling Drive in the Westcott Apartments, near I-69, Sunday evening.

The first company on scene reported flames through the roof of the two-story apartment complex.

EFD Deputy Chief Kim Garrett says the building contained eight apartments, all of which were evacuated when firefighters arrived.

Garrett says two apartments sustained significant fire damage, and two other apartments were damaged mostly by smoke and water.

Electricity was cut to all eight apartments as a precaution.

The Red Cross was called to assist about ten displaced residents.

Garrett says the blaze originated on the exterior of the complex and spread into the attic space.

The fire cause has been ruled undetermined.

No injuries were reported.
