Crews are waiting for river levels to fall more before they resume work to fix the hole

Officials have closed all lanes of Riverside Drive in both directions. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:

A pesky sinkhole near Chestnut Street has expanded across all four lanes on Evansville’s Riverfront.

It’s forced crews to close Riverside between Court and Cherry streets.

The detour is 2nd Street.

When the hole first developed in late February, it only affected westbound traffic.

And then last week, one eastbound lane had to be closed.

Now, all four lanes are shut down.

Repairs have been stopped due to water in the hole.

Crews are waiting for river levels to drop more -- enough to resume repairs.

There’s no word on how soon the work will be done.
