This makes it possible for residents to receive individual reimbursement for expenses and damage incurred due to the flooding

The proclamation includes damages incurred with severe weather including "tornadic activity" and flooding.

The city and county must hit a dollar-amount threshold to possibly receive state and possibly federal funds to recoup a percentage of personal property damage.

Repair projects must exceed $4,000, and overall, amount to just under $4.72 county per capita.

Deputy Mayor Lyndsay Snyder said this gets the potential reimbursement process started.

“When we make this declaration, we're now able to assess the damage that has been done, so where we can start to track that damage and the cost that may be associated with that and put our name on the list to where, if we meet a specific threshold for the state, we can then start to recoup those dollars through reimbursement.”

She said when the weather struck initially, there wasn’t enough damage to make such a proclamation. Now, the city and county could meet that threshold.

Snyder said the list of counties seeking assistance in Indiana is growing. There are currently about 35.

Residents can report property damage at the Indiana 211 website.
