The city of Evansville is the first emergency medical services provider in Indiana to launch a program called 9-1-1 Nurse Navigation. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
Global Emergency Response says the program gives dispatchers a new tool: a team of trained nurse navigators who screen callers and recommend appropriate healthcare.
It’s designed to help dispatchers deal with 9-1-1 callers with medical needs who don't require an immediate response.
American Medical Response and Evansville Fire Department joint medical director Dr. Matt Gilbert says the system should enhance efficiency.
He says the initiative will lower costs for patients and allow first responders to remain available for “true medical emergencies."
It was developed in partnership with American Medical Response and program pioneer Global Medical Response.
