EPA Resuming Superfund Site Clean-Up

EPA

The sampling and removal of contaminated soil is planned in as many as 8 neighborhoods

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it will resume soil sampling and clean-up in hundreds of Evansville yards. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:

The EPA says crews will start removing lead and arsenic contamination from yards at about 350 homes in the Jacobsville Superfund site.

The site includes more than the Jacobsville neighborhood.

The EPA says crews will also work in the Ballard, Bayard Park, Culver, Fulton Terrace, Haynie’s Corner, Jimtown and Riverside neighborhoods.

The agency continues to contact residents to request permission to access and sample properties that may require cleanup from old polluting businesses.

The EPA says it has removed contaminated soil from more than 4,000 residential properties and recreational areas at the local Superfund site since 2007.
