Shareholders Approve Berry-Amcor Merger

File

The $8.4 billion deal is expected to close this summer

A big step is taken toward the merger of Berry Global and Amcor. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Evansville-based Berry and Switzerland-based Amcor say shareholders of both companies overwhelmingly voted to approve the merger.

Berry says the approval satisfies the shareholder vote condition for the combination, originally announced in November.

Together, the companies say they’ll be “among the global leaders in consumer and healthcare packaging solutions.”

The eight-point-four billion dollar merger is expected to close this summer, subject to other conditions.

There’s no word on how the deal may affect the workforce in Evansville.

In a joint news release in November, the Swiss company said it will keep its global office in Zurich, while the combined company “expects to maintain a significant presence in Evansville."

More: Berry employs about 4,000 workers at nine locations in Indiana.
