A surge in flu cases is prompting area hospitals to limit visitors. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Community Patient Safety Coalition of Southwest Indiana and Kentucky says influenza A cases are climbing, so area hospitals are establishing temporary visitor restrictions.
The restrictions include no visitors with symptoms of illness such as fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, and runny nose.
Also no visitors under the age of 16 will be allowed.
Hospitals implementing the restrictions include Ascension St. Vincent,
Deaconess Health System, Good Samaritan Hospital, Encompass Health Rehabilitation, Daviess (Davis) Community Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital.
Officials say the restrictions are designed to protect the most vulnerable patients.
Masks will be available and encouraged for guests.
Visitors should also observe the standard practices of washing hands and covering coughs and sneezes when around others, and as always, visitors who are ill are asked to stay home.
