Compromised data includes student directory and demographics, parent or guardian information, medical alert information — breached information isn’t expected to be made public

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) will soon send an update to employees and families of students affected by the digital data breach from earlier this month.

Earlier in January, the EVSC reported that it had experienced a digital data breach by the district's student data software vendor PowerSchool, and they are still in communication today.

Compromised data includes student directory and demographics, parent or guardian information and medical alert information.

Some social security numbers may be affected, about which the district will contact individuals directly.

This week, EVSC Chief Communication Officer Jason Woebkenberg said the company will be providing free credit monitoring and identity theft protection for two years.

“They're working with Experian,” he said. “They're also going to be creating a toll free call center to answer anyone who has individual questions.”

PowerSchool will contact EVSC families directly.

He said families of employees, students and former students will receive these updates directly in the next two weeks.

Woebkenberg said the breach was with PowerStudent software, and EVSC couldn’t have prevented it internally.
