Firefighters rescued a pet dog from the fire at Sunrise East apartments

Two people escaped and a dog was rescued from burning apartment on Evansville’s East Side. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Firefighters were dispatched to the Sunrise East Apartments in the 3900 block of Covert Avenue at about 5:40 Thursday morning.

The first unit on the scene reported flames in a second-floor apartment.

Two occupants got out of the unit and firefighters rescued a dog and treated it at the scene.

There’s no word on the dog’s condition.

There was no word of any injuries to people.

Firefighters reported the fire “tapped out” just before 6 a.m.

An investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Evansville Police blocked traffic on Covert between Vann and Green River while crews fought the fire.
