Officials Lift State of Emergency

Vanderburgh County EMA

It was issued a week ago, when ice and snow left tens of thousands without power

Officials have lifted the State of Emergency for Evansville and Vanderburgh County. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The Emergency Management Agency is thanking first responders, 9-1-1 dispatchers, utility crews, vegetation workers; street maintenance crews, urban forestry teams and all volunteers who helped the community get through last week’s ice and snow.

CenterPoint Energy says it restored power on Saturday to the last of its customers who lost electricity in the storm.

The snow and ice brought down countless trees and tree limbs and knocked out power to more than 60,000 customers in southwest Indiana.

Meanwhile, many students who hadn’t been to school since before Christmas returned to classrooms on Monday.

Sunshine and above freezing temperatures over the weekend helped melt more of the ice and snow.
