The long, arduous task of getting power restored to residents in southwest Indiana is almost complete. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
CenterPoint Energy says the number of customers still in the dark and cold has dropped below 1,000.
That may be little comfort to those still without power but it represents a major improvement from the more than 60,000 customers who lost power in Sunday’s snow and ice storm.
CenterPoint crews, contractors, and mutual aid workers numbering more than 1,000 made significant gains in the restoration process Wednesday and Thursday.
In western Kentucky, Kenergy is reporting less than 100 outages in its service area.
The restoration efforts continue as a new winter storm moves into the area.
The National Weather Service is predicting 3-to-5 inches of snow.
The new storm is not expected to contain any ice, but some ice and snow remain on roadways, trees and power lines from Sunday’s storm.
Many school systems remain closed or have switched to virtual learning.
