Firefighters battled the blaze in icy conditions

Firefighters battled flames, smoke and sub-freezing temperatures to extinguish a house fire in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Central Dispatch sent crews to the 800 block of Madison Avenue at about 10:45 Tuesday morning.

A chief spotted smoke coming from a house before he arrived on scene.

Evansville firefighters entered the burning home and asked for Animal Control.

There was no word of any people inside the house.

After battling the fire from outside and inside for about 15 minutes, a chief ordered everyone out of the two-story structure because it could collapse.

The chief also requested an additional ladder truck at the scene and fire fighters poured water on the blaze from above.

It took crews more than an hour to tap out the fire.

There was no word on how it started.
