Warming centers open in Evansville, Henderson

Additional warming centers have been announced along with free METS rides

With freezing temperatures and thousands without power several warming centers are open in the tri-state area.

The city of Evansville in partnership with the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation, St. Ben’s, CenterPoint Energy and the American Red Cross, has opened three additional warming centers today.

These are at Central High School, Lincoln School, Young & Established, and St. Ben’s School. All will be open until at least 6:00 p.m.

Open 24 hours are Evansville Rescue Mission and United Caring Services Shelter.

Crossroads Christian Church in Newburgh is opened as a warming Monday, January 6. CenterPoint Energy and the Red Cross are providing supplies/resources for the warming station.

North Park Wesleyan Church will be open day and night — bring chargers and sleeping bags.

In Henderson, there is an overnight warming center at The Salvation Army located on Washington Street.

A Red Cross warming center will be open Monday afternoon at The Gathering Place on North Elm Street in Henderson.

Due to road conditions and the continued freezing temperatures across the city, the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) will offer free rides on all routes today.
