Ivy Tech is asking the Indiana Legislature for 35-million dollars to expand and renovate the Evansville campus. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The big ask is part of the community college’s biennial budget request to the General Assembly.
Ivy Tech cites a recent ten-percent population increase in its service area, which includes Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, Gibson, Pike, Daviess, Knox, Spencer, Perry and Dubois counties.
The school says the project would help meet the educational, workforce and technology needs of Southwest Indiana.
Specifics include more lab space for the Entrepreneurship Program; a renovation of darkroom space into lab space; demolition of adjacent structures currently used for classrooms and offices; an upgrade of outdoor activity spaces and the current auditorium; as well as a re-imagination of the school’s library.
The proposed expansion is expected to increase enrollment by more than 600 students and increase credentials by more than 450 per year.
