The Environmental Protection Agency says it cleaned-up nearly 300 contaminated properties in the Jacobsville neighborhood this year. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
The EPA says the work raised the number of properties cleaned at the federal Superfund site to 4,483.
The agency says crews cleaned up soil contaminated with lead and arsenic, left behind by former businesses.
The EPA also tested the soil at 338 more properties, bringing the total to more than 7,500 tested.
Earlier this year, the EPA lowered the regional screening level for lead in residential soil. That could make additional homes eligible for clean-up.
The agency says it will provide more information to the community when sampling resumes in the spring.
