Dozens of Indiana high school students have been nominated for U.S. service academy appointments. As WNIN’s John Gibson reports, five of them are from the Evansville area:

U.S. Senator Todd Young announced his nominations after applications were received from 140 high school students, and a select group was interviewed by an advisory board chosen by Young.

Out of the 75 offered interviews, Young nominated what he called “47 exemplary young men and women from across Indiana.”

Among the nominees for the U.S. Military Academy is Bradley Kehler of Signature School, Connor Day of Evansville Christian School, and Garrett Quick of Memorial High School.

Nominees for the Air Force Academy include Ryan Verkamp of Jasper High School and Sean Windell of Heritage Hills.

A nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy, but it is required to be considered.

Senator Young says the nominees are “highly qualified to serve our country” and he wished them the best of luck in their application process.
