University of Evansville students have access to a new outdoor recreation area. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
UE’s Student Government Association has unveiled the Legacy Courtyard.
The space on the campus includes a patio, hammock village, two sand volleyball courts, and open green space for future phases of development.
UE Chief Communications Officer Noah Alatza says the courtyard will benefit students:
"And we feel that it's so critically important that they have that space to be able to, again, congregate, come together and focus on what's really important at the end of the day, which is their overall well-being."
The Student Government Association says all plants and trees in the courtyard are native to Indiana.
The project began two years ago and has been spearheaded, designed, and fully funded by the SGA.
Five university-owned homes were demolished for the project in June.
SGA President Benton Simpson says the association saw the need for more outdoor study and recreation areas on campus, and was committed to meeting the need.
