Four Injured in Apartment Fire

File

The early morning blaze chased residents from Ingle Terrace Apartments

An overnight fire at an Evansville apartment building injured four people. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Central Dispatch received a call of a fire at Ingle Terrace Apartments, near the Lloyd Expressway and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., at about 3:40 Wednesday morning.

EFD Deputy Chief Kim Garrett says the caller also tried to alert occupants by banging on the doors of other apartments.

The first crew on the scene reported smoke and flames visible from the back of two-story structure.

Garrett says one occupant jumped from the second floor before firefighters arrived and injured a “lower extremity.”

Firefighters removed another occupant from a balcony with a ladder.

Two other occupants evacuated through a lower-level window.

In all, four residents were injured and taked to the hospital.

No firefighters were hurt.

The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents.

The fire is under investigation.
