Vanderburgh County voters are electing a new District Three Commissioner. WNIN’s John Gibson has this profile:

Amy Canterbury defeated incumbent Cheryl Musgrave in the May Republican Primary.

Canterbury touts her years of experience in both business and not-for-profits:

"After 25 years in the banking industry, I began a new chapter as regional CEO of the local American Red Cross and later the CEO of the United Way (of) Southwestern Indiana. We helped some of the most vulnerable in our area to get a hand up."

She also says she will oppose tax increases:

"I will always look for ways to save taxpayers locally, ensuring our priorities are funded responsibly and efficiently."

Canterbury faces Democrat Hope Fussner who graduated from USI, moved to Indianapolis for eight years, and then returned to Evansville four years ago:

"I'm a project manager at Mead Johnson, where I lead multi-million dollar projects with 30-person teams to develop new items for infants. I serve on multiple non-profit boards so that I can help our community."

Fussner’s top priority is shared by many candidates but she has others:

"I will focus on public safety which will always be my top priority, utility rate costs that are becoming unaffordable for our residents, and quality of life through parks, trails and roads."

The candidates spoke to WNIN Public TV.

Early voting continues in Vanderburgh County at Central, McCullough, North Park, Oaklyn, and Red Bank libraries.

Voting is also available again this Saturday at Cedar Hall School on Fulton Avenue and at Northeast Park Baptist Church on Boeke Road.
