Oklahoma-based meatpacker BrucePac is recalling nearly 12 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that may contain the potentially dangerous bacteria, listeria.

At least one local grocer may have received tainted items — this is the Gordon Food Service located at 1500 hundred Burkhardt Road in Evansville.

The specific Gordon Foods meal that may contain listeria is the Gordon Choice Chicken Alfredo with Penne Pasta – 5 lb. meal.

There were also brands connected with Trader Joe’s.

According to the Mayo Clinic , listeria can be fatal to unborn babies, newborns and people with weakened immune systems.

The tainted items were produced from May 31, 2024, to October 8, 2024.

This is according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, which detected the bacteria earlier this month.

Products were packaged by the company and eventually shipped to restaurants , schools and institutions.

This recall has grown in the number of products and the dates covered since the original announcement. The affected schools were recently added.

One school in Indiana was identified — Goddard School Indy North at 4560 E 62nd St., Indianapolis.
