EWSU to Discuss New Lead and Copper Rules

EWSU

The first "community conversation" is Thursday, Oct. 24, as the utility deals with new EPA guidelines on drinking water

The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility will conduct a community conversation next week to discuss getting the lead out of drinking water. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The meeting follows word from the utility that it’s released its Service Line Inventory to state regulatory officials and met the filing deadline for new federal lead and copper rules.

The EWSU says the inventory will be posted online when it becomes available.

The new rules require that all lead service lines in the utility’s water distribution system be removed within the next 10 years.

Lead can complicate pregnancies, impact normal physical and mental development in babies and children, and increase high blood pressure in adults, among other adverse health effects.

To keep customers informed, the utility is launching a series of Community Conversations to share more information about the new EPA requirements and the utility’s lead service line replacement plan.

The first conversation is set for next Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Sunrise Pump Station on Waterworks Road

Another Community Conversation will be scheduled in November.
