Democratic Lt. Governor Candidate Terry Goodin has responded to Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Braun’s education plan. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Much of Braun’s plan announced last week checks many conservative boxes, including universal school choice, limiting student cell phone use, ensuring parents have access to their children’s curriculum, alerting parents about students who want to change their names or pronouns, safeguards against critical race theory, studying the impact of school lockdowns and mask mandates and preventing transgender girls from playing in girls’ sports.
Goodin says he and Democratic candidate for Governor Jennifer McCormick agree on good teacher pay and school safety, but…
"They're coming up with a lot of answers to problems that don't exist in our state."
Goodin notes the education experience of McCormick and himself:
"Working as a school superintendent where I was at Crothersville and Jennifer McCormick was the superintendent of public instruction for the state."
Goodin and McCormick say the state’s minimum teacher salary should be $60,000 to attract talent and fill positions.
Braun’s plan calls for raising teacher pay and improving their benefits but doesn’t specify teacher base pay.
