City Council Approves Opioid Funds

File

On a 7-1 vote, the council approved Mayor Terry's plan to distribute the $1.2 million

The Evansville City Council has approved the distribution of Opioid Settlement funds. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

A Mayor’s committee chose six local non-profits to share the one-point-two million dollars earlier this month.

They are the YWCA Evansville, Evansville Rescue Mission, Vanderburgh County Mental Health Court, Evansville Police Department, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, and The Deaconess Women’s Hospital.

The city council approved the six recipients last (Mon) night, with Council member Courtney Johnson voting “no.”

Councilor Paul Green did not attend the meeting.

One group that was not among the recipients was the Evansville Recovery Alliance.

That led to feedback from the alliance’s supporters on the mayor’s Facebook page.

Mayor Terry told the council meeting that she has heard the concerns and hopes by this time next year the city will have another $1.6 million to invest in the community.
