A lane shift is coming to the West Lloyd Expressway this weekend. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Indiana Department of Transportation calls it a milestone in the Lloyd4U construction.
Drivers might call it a headache.
Crews are closing the westbound lanes and shifting westbound traffic to the south side of the expressway.
INDOT says drivers can expect just one lane of traffic in each direction stretching from Barker Avenue all the way to the Posey County line.
Lane restrictions and reduced speed limits have increased travel times on the West Lloyd for several weeks.
INDOT urges drivers to follow the signs and pavement markings and observe the posted speed limit.
The exit at University Parkway is marked and will remain open.
This new traffic configuration is expected to be in place until mid-2025 when traffic will shift to the newly constructed side and work will begin on the eastbound side of the Lloyd.
Drivers are urged to use the Zipper Merge technique when entering the work zone.
In other words, use both lanes up to the merge point, and take turns merging into the single lane.
