3 firefighters suffered "heat injuries" in the blaze that gutted the century old brick building

A two-alarm fire destroyed an Evansville business and injured three firefighters. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Crews were dispatched to Pike’s Mattress at 213 W. Division St. Saturday afternoon.

EFD Deputy Chief Kim Garrett says the first crew on scene reported smoke and flames visible from the 3rd story of the brick building.

Garrett says the fire quickly spread through the roof and a second call went out for more firefighters.

Three firefighters suffered what Garrett called “heat injuries.”

They were taken to a hospital, where two were released and one was admitted for overnight observation.

Firefighters remained on the scene through Saturday night.

Division St. has since reopened in that area.

Investigators from the EFD and Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office have not yet released the cause of the blaze, which destroyed the three-story building.

Pike’s celebrated a reopening of the store just days before the blaze.
