Burn Ban Issued for Vanderburgh County

File

The Open Burning Emergency follows nearly a month of no rain in Evansville

Officials have declared an Open Burning Emergency in Vanderburgh County. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

County Commissioners say the burn ban is in effect for all unincorporated areas of the county for seven days, unless commissioners rescind it sooner.

They say no one is allowed to start an open fire unless first getting written permission from the chief of the fire department with primary jurisdiction.

Any person convicted of violating the burn ban can be fined $500.

The action follows a nearly month-long dry spell.

The last rain to be measured at Evansville Regional Airport fell on August 2nd.

The National Weather Service is calling for good chances of showers and thunderstorms Friday night and Saturday in the Evansville area.
