Officials are again extending the ozone alert while forecasters predict potential record -breaking heat. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has extended its Air Quality Action Day forecast through Thursday for southern Indiana.
IDEM says ozone levels are expected to remain in the “orange” range, or “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
Officials continue to ask residents to limit driving, use public transportation, and work from home if possible to help reduce ozone pollution.
The record high for Evansville on Thursday is 98, and forecasters are expecting a high near 100.
Humidity levels have remained low enough that the weather service has not issued heat advisories or warnings.
But forecasters still suggest you limit time outdoors, take frequent breaks, wear light and loose-fitting clothes and drink plenty of water.
Parts of the Tri-State received some badly-needed rain Wednesday morning, but Evansville has not recorded any measurable rainfall since August 2nd.
