Officials have extended the air quality alerts through Wednesday. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management says Air Quality Action Days will continue in southern Indiana through at least Wednesday.
IDEM says the combination of bright sunshine, light wind, and temperatures near the century mark can create ground level ozone.
The agency says ozone could reach the orange level, or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.
A cold front working its way south toward the central part of the state is not expected to reach the Evansville area.
The National Weather Service is predicting high temperatures at or near 100 degrees in our area through Thursday.
Chances for showers and thunderstorms are expected on Friday.
In the meantime, residents are asked to help reduce ozone levels by limiting driving, taking public transportation, or working from home if possible.
