The restrictions will allow a crane to lift a new pedestrian overpass into place at 41 and Washington

New lane restrictions and nighttime closings are expected this week along Highway 41 in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The planned restrictions and closings are part of the construction of a long-awaited pedestrian bridge over U.S. 41 at Washington Avenue.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says beginning on or around Wednesday, crews will close the southbound passing lane of 41 between Bellemeade and Washington.

INDOT say the lane closure will allow for the set-up of a construction crane.

Officials say drivers can also expect temporary overnight closures of 41 in that area.

INDOT says the closures will allow for lifting and setting the new bridge above the roadway.

The crane will be dismantled after the work.

The project also calls for transforming 41 and Washington into a “reduced conflict” intersection.
