A date is set and a keynote speaker is chosen for this fall’s Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The annual dinner and awards ceremony is set for November 1st at Old National Events Plaza.
The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II.
Barber has many titles: President and Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach; Co-Chair of the Poor People's Campaign; Bishop with The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries; Executive Board Member of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ; and Founding Director of the Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at Yale Divinity School.
Barber is also the author of four books, the latest of which is White Poverty: How Exposing Myths about Race and Class Can Reconstruct American Democracy.
Mayor Stephanie Terry will present the Diversity Awards at the event.
The awards recognize businesses, organizations and individuals that embrace and celebrate diversity.
