On Thursday, the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (EREP) hosted an event celebrating several new community assets in Warrick County.
These assets came about because of a growing population, especially in Ohio Township — and the need for more services and community attractions.
One of the items celebrated was the groundbreaking of a brand new park. The other was a dedication for the new Fire Station featuring a full-time staff. They’ll work alongside the volunteers.
Colten Pipenger, program manager with EREP, said the Ohio Township Board of Trustees and Trustee Chad Bennet saw the need for full time staff with the growing population.
“… we're so excited to see that we needed a full time fire chief, full time fire staff. So now anytime that you're in Ohio Township and you call 911, there's a centrally located fire station with the six ambulances.”
Instead of a ribbon-cutting, the fire hall was dedicated with a “firehose cutting” with the jaws of life by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch.

The new Ohio Township Park is significant because it will act as a community hub that doesn’t exist yet.
Pipenger said there will be lots of amenities like “… sand volleyball to a gazebo, just places to hang out. any age, any ability, inclusive playgrounds.”
This was another project made possible with READI 1.0 funds, and partnering with Southwest Indian Regional Development Authority.
The closest other amenity would be Friedman Park. Pipenger said this will be a regional asset because it’s so close to the Vanderburgh County Line.
“This is going to be a very active park that, again, current and future residents will be able to enjoy for a long time coming.”
The park is expected to be open Memorial Day of 2025.
