The Germania Maennerchor Volksfest is underway on Evansville's West Side

German food, drink and music are being celebrated on Evansville’s West Side. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Germania Maennerchor Volksfest is underway at the club’s Festival Hall, Rathskellar and Beer Garden on Fulton Avenue – where you may hear this familiar tune:

But Germania President Jim Kluesner says there’s a wide variety of music at this year’s fest and you don’t have to sit outside in the heat:

"We have plenty of seating downstairs in our rathskellar, we have plenty of seating upstairs." "And it feels like the air conditioning is working fine? "The air conditioning is working fine yes, sir."

Beer is a big part of Germania, and Kluesner says the festival officially begins with a tapping of the keg:

"Actually, the kegs are already tapped but we do a ceremony at 6:00 under the beer garden."

He says the Volksfest also offers a Kids Corner on Saturday morning:

"They have things for the kids to do, they have food, they have school supplies. After 2:00, we go to 21 and over and after 4:00, we charge $5 to get in."

The 62nd Germania Maennerchor Volksfest runs through Saturday.
